They can be rated as high as 5 9's - or - 9.9999% uptime! The way these advanced systems work is by having 2 or more servers working as one. In the event of a single server's failure, the other servers in the cluster take over the load. Of course, now we're talking some serious bucks, but if you need it, we can do it. We recommend clustering technology for only those that require 24/7 system availability. Without a maintenance window, replacing hardware, which will of course eventually be required, will necessitate downtime. With a cluster, we can shut down a server and nobody even notices since the failover servers handle the load instantly. Multiple-Site Replication
The technology for replicating (copying & synchronizing) files and even databases is now mature. Distribution of resources is the only true way to provide full redundancy. Have copies of your websites, accounting database and your files in two separate geographical locations. Synchronizing is done automatically and constantly, not merely file by file, but in smaller blocks to conserve bandwidth. |
