Overview Remote Access is a general description for how one access their data while away from their desk or office. There many ways in which one can accomplish this. We will guide your company through this, and help you make the right decisions.Step One: Who gets access? The first step, is to decide which people should have remote access privileges. You certainly don't need your janitorial staff to have remote access. Depending on which method you choose, some solutions require you to pay per remote user. Others are virtually unlimited.
Step Two: Levels of Access As mentioned earlier, there are many ways to access a network remotely. There are also different types of access. Certain remote users, such as administrators and consultants (like Richter Consulting) will require FULL access via VPN and terminal services. Most users however, merely want to access their email, faxes, public folders and maybe the files on their desktop or in My Documents. In this situation, we recommend using Outlook Web Access (OWA). OWA provides nearly full access to every feature you have in standard Outlook, and of course access to all of the data. With the proper add-on, you can even have access to your "My Documents" folder and everything on your desktop. This is definitely the most secure method of access and therefore our preferred setup. |
